About The Hoboken Public Library Foundation

Renovating.  Innovating.  Cultivating.

The Hoboken Public Library Foundation provides long term, stable financial support for the resources and services the library requires to meet the needs of our community. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The board is comprised of 7-20 members, each of whom serves a three-year term. The Hoboken Public Library Foundation Board is comprised of volunteers who donate their time and efforts to help ensure the long-term financial future of the Hoboken Public Library.

Your donation to the Hoboken Public Library Foundation helps to ensure a solid future for the library. Your gift becomes part of an endowment that is used to support the needs of future generations of library-goers, as well as to support current capital requirements for necessary library repairs and improvements.

The work of the Hoboken Public Library Foundation can be described with three simple words: Renovating. Innovating. Cultivating.

Renovating

The Hoboken Public Library was established in 1890 in the basement of a Hoboken bank. It quickly grew and soon plans were afoot to build a permanent home for the library. In 1897, the Hoboken Public Library moved to its current location at 500 Park Avenue.

Our beautiful library, designed by Albert Beyer, is an architectural treasure and a legacy for us to preserve and nurture for future generations of library visitors. With your help, the library has replaced its main door, providing easier access and better security. Our elevator, which was severely damaged by Hurricane Sandy is now up and running again – thanks to you.

Innovating

Through the work of the Foundation and your generous donations, the Hoboken Public Library is keeping pace with the latest technology. Within the past year, the library opened a new Creation Space — a public makerspace to foster learning and creativity through education and access to:

  • Cutting-edge software;
  • 3D printer and scanner,
  • Music recording station;
  • LEGO kits;
  • Dollhouse building kits;
  • Workshops, classes, and more.

With your support, the library will be able to continue its journey into tomorrow.

Cultivating

Cultivate – to grow and care for. That’s what the Hoboken Public Library Foundation is all about – helping our library grow and become THE hub of learning and social interaction in our community now and into the future. And you can do your share by supporting the Foundation with a contribution today! And please know that your donation will not disappear into a black hole of bureaucracy. Your dollars will be used to fund real programs, real renovations, real purchases, real repairs, and real innovations.
